| Popular Acne Drug Could Also Erase Wrinkles and Correct ...
For more than two decades, acne sufferers have turned to the potent drug isotretinoin to control severe, unrelenting acne lesions. Even though reports of side effects like suicide and depression have plagued isotretinoin, this blockbuster drug still has appeal in the anti-aging market. Much of isotretinoins age-fighting capacity found root in laboratories. One group of researchers discovered that oral dosages of isotretinoin could actually enhance surgical procedures used to reverse the signs of aging like wrinkle and blotchy skin coloring. According to a report in Dermatologic Surgery, investigators gave 60 patients that ranged from 35 to 65 years old oral doses of isotretinoin three times a week for two months, while the patients underwent cosmetic surgical procedures.
A Wicking Bra
In my earlier post on bacne (acne on the back) I suggested wearing a sports bra that was good at wicking away the sweat from the body. Well here's my new favorite bra that is wicked awesome at wicking - the Trilogy Bra by Title Nine Sports. Fabricated from three different types of fabrics, hence the name, engineered to wick the sweat away from your skin. The back and straps of this pull-over bra are made of mesh to provide maximum breathability. The body of the bra is wicking polyester that is lined (this is the part I love - a sports bra with lining, who knew!!!??!!!) with power nylon mesh. While that sounds like it might be uncomfortable or itchy, it is not. The lining keeps the girls and the cleavage dry (another place sweat can pool and create a breakouts). Plus I find the bra quite supportive.
Acne care for grown-ups
Day after day, you diligently slather your skin with anti-aging facial mists, eye gels, retinols and shea butters, proud that you're so careful to keep your over-40 skin in top form. You're going for healthy, supple and fresh, but is too much testing wreaking havoc on your skin? It sure could be. The last time clogged pores and pimples upstaged my wrinkles, I blamed a one-night stand with dark chocolate M&Ms. But my dermatologist said the culprit was a bigger binge: a tryout of super-emollient anti-aging products. That — along with my hormonal zigs and zags — made me break out like an adolescent. Here's what I used to undo the damage: 1. Don't give in to the urge to squeeze those tempting blackheads — clear them instead with Joey NY Specialty Instant Chemistry ($25), a papain-enzyme-based gel that de-plugs pores like Drano.
Dry Skin Sufferers Need Protection From Insect Repellants
Summers coming and soon well be sitting outside on warm summer evenings visiting with friends, having barbeques and slapping bugs. Most of us will head to the drug store for insect repellant but, before you run out the door, consider this: whats bad for the insect is also bad for you. The same ingredients that kill insects are also listed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as toxic to humans, and they come with enough warnings to definitely scare you off if you read them. They are especially dangerous for those with dry skin or eczema. What are your alternatives? A good shielding lotion will help prevent dry skin and inhibit absorption of the toxins, but natural insect repellants may be something you also want to look into. Heres what youre up against with the traditional toxic products.
